Carlos Valderrama is a retired midfielder widely considered to be the best Colombian player of all time.
Nicknamed El Pibe (The Kid in Spanish) his shock of permed blonde hair made him instantly recognizable throughout the soccer world. One of the few players to captain his national team at three World Cups, he is the most-capped player in Colombian history, appearing 111 times for his country.
Known for his silky passing skills, his club career started with Colombian outfit Union Magdalena in 1981. In 1988 he left for Europe, playing in France and Spain before returning for a short stint in his native land. From 1996-2002 he played in the United States, where he still holds the Major League Soccer record of 26 assists in a single season.
