The French are classed as being one one of the best national teams in the game due to their strength in depth and world class players in a variety of positions. They however lack a midfield playmaker due to the retirement of Zinedine Zidane and therefore are more reliant on wing play than playing through the middle. They have been licensed since PES6 with a home kit of blue shirts, white shorts and red socks and an away strip of all white with red and blue trim. There unlicensed kit in the earlier games had them playing in white socks for their home strip.

[edit] Tactics & Players

The most effective formation for France is usually 4-4-2 with Jeremy Toulalan and Lassana Diarra as holding midfielders and having fast skillful players on the flanks such as Franck Ribery and Samir Nasri to supply Thierry Henry and Karim Benzema. 4-3-3 is also effective by sacrificing either Vieira or Makelele for a further attacking option. It does however leave the team suspect to counter attacks, however they are equipped well at the back to deal with any sort of attacks, having players like William Gallas , Patrice Evra and Eric Abidal.

[edit] Controversy

Many criticised Konami after they included Lilian Thuram in PES 2009 even though he had already retired and failed to correct this in the November Update. France also had their old kits in the original version but this was fixed during the update. It is worth noting that Willy Sagnol has also retired. Claude Makelele has retired from International football and Gregory Coupet has not been selected since the European Championships 2008.
