In their recent spells they have reached the semi-final of the Copa Libertadores in 2009, finished second in the Brazilan Championship in 2008 and reached the final of the Copa Libertadores in 2007 - when they lost to Boca Juniors. Their last big success was in 1995/96 when they won the national championship, won the Copa Libertadores and later on failed to be world champions after loosing in a penalty shoot-out to Ajax.
