International Challenge Mode is a game mode were a player can attempt to qualify for the World Cup (known as the International Cup due to licensing issues) and be staged in a qualifying group. It first appeared in Pro Evolution Soccer 6. It should be noted that unplayable nations made their first appearance. These teams include Estonia, Jordan etc. There is a rumor that International Challenge mode may have appeared in the Japanese versions of previous PES games. This is where the player must take control of Japan and take them to world glory.
 PES 6
International Challenge Mode made it's first appearance in PES 6. Only the North America, South America and Europe qualifiers were playable. It had many similarities to the real-life World Cup, for example: the 4th place North American team would face a Asian team in a play-off. The fifth place South American team would face a Oceanian team. Unplayable teams included Estonia, North Korea, Bolivia etc. This was only available in the PlayStation 2 and PC versions of the game.
 PES 2008
Again, International Challenge mode made a appearance. Only the PC versions of the game had the mode. This time, all regions were playable
 PES 2009
However this mode was removed from this PES 2009.
 PES 2010
After not appearing in PES 2009, International Challenge mode made a re-appearance. But once again only the PC versions had this mode.
