Matthew Upson is an aged English defender who plays for Stoke City but is on loan with Brighton & Hove Albion. He has also played for England's national team as well. He was a good defender at one point but as he has gotten older his stats have gone down and his defending has become sloppy.

[edit] PES 2010
With 87 in Defence, 80 in Acceleration and 84 in Response, Upson has very good stats but is already at his peak so is not a recommended signing in Master League.
[edit] PES 2011
Like many other England international players, his stats were lowered following England' s disastrous 2010 World Cup campaign in real life: Defence rating dropped from 87 to 82, Top Speed from 78 to 72, Acceleration from 80 to 73 and Response from 84 to 80.
[edit] PES 2013
Upson in PES 2013 poses a very difficult decision for anyone starting a ML with Brighton. When it comes down too it, it comes down to player preference. He is a loan signing due to Brighton not being able to afford his wages and transfer fee for a full signing, and it makes sense for his parent club to put him on loan so he can get games. The problem is it would be better if he was a full Brighton player.
Upson still has decent stats and although slow, lacking pace hugely, scarily slow, he is good in the air for corners although will not develop and will fatigue a lot and will need regular rests.
That said for Brighton's level he is at a team to suit his talent skills and help Brighton. You have 3 options in ML with him, the first to end the loan sending him back to Stoke City, the second to extend the loan or the third to dig deep and make him a full signing.
