The Netherlands is probably the best country to have never won the World Cup. They've had a lot great players and among them one of the best football players of all time, Johan Cruyff. Holland always have some of the finest talents around the world which is remarkable for such a small country. Holland is famous for there players and orange colored fans, and also their influential playing style called Total Football. The Dutch normally play with a very attacking minded and pressing style of play. Mostly in a 4-3-3 formation, with classic wingers. The Netherlands have appeared on every edition of Pro Evolution Soccer to date and have been licensed since Pro Evolution Soccer 6, but are no longer licensed in PES 2013.

[edit] PES 2

In PES 2 players names were given codes, e.g. Edgar Davids was called Oranges101 as were all the other Dutch players except they had different numbers. This then made it hard to tell players from other due to their faces also not resembling the player.

[edit] Controversy

Some players like the wingforward Eljero Elia who now plays for HSV and goalkeeper Piet Velthuizen who currently plays for Vitesse are not present in the team. After the update (1.07) Elia is present in the team.Ruud van Nistelrooy has retired but he has expressed his interest to play at the World Cup, and this could explain his move to HSV from Real Madrid. He did not earn a place in the team for the world cup.

[edit] Players

The team has a very strong attack and midfield, but their defence however isn't up to par. Their attack oozes power with names such as Robin van Persie, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, the always dangerous Arjen Robben and the hard working Dirk Kuyt. Their midfield is also very influencing with players like Rafael van der Vaart, Nigel de Jong, Demy de Zeeuw, Mark van Bommel and Wesley Sneijder. They had a solid Goalkeeper in Edwin van der Sar who has now retired and his young back up Maarten Stekelenburg guards the goal currently. Holland's best defenders would have to be John Heitinga and Joris Mathijsen but the rest are very average, except the upcoming man Gregory van der Wiel.

[edit] Captaincy

Mark van Bommel inherited the captain' s armband from Giovanni van Bronckhorst after the retirement of the sideback at the end of the 2010 World Cup.
