Portsmouth FC (pronounced PORTS-m'th) (affectionately known as Pompy in various editions of the PES series) are an English Premier League side that can be used on PES 2009. The club have been available to use since their promotion to the Premier League, which coincided with the release of PES4.

Players

Portsmouth have the reputation of being a very physical side in real life, utilizing the height, pace and strength of the various African players in the squad, such as Papa Bouba Diop, John Utaka and Lauren. Technical prowess is supplied by the likes of Niko Kranjcar, Sean Davis and Kanu and the English national team keeper David James.

However in PES 2009 they are missing a fair number of players and have many players who have moved on from the south coast. The players that do not appear in the game but should for Pompy are:

• Linvoy Primus (who was on loan at Charlton Athletic)
• Jerome Thomas (who was loaned from Charlton Athletic)
• Richard Duffy (who is loan to Coventry City)
• Glen Little (who was bought from Reading)
• Jean Francios Christophe (who was loaned to Southend United)
• Nadir Belhadj (who was bought from RC Lens)

All these players are linked with clubs from the second tier of their leagues or lower so do not appear in PES09 so neither do their players.

The players that are still registered in Portsmouth's squad but should be at their new clubs are:

• Sulley Muntari (transferred to Inter Milan)
• Pedro Mendes (transferred to Rangers)
• Franck Songo'o (transferred to Real Zaragoza)
