Sami Hyypiä is a Finnish retired defender who finished his career at Bayer Leverkusen. He had appeared for Liverpool throughout the PES series before his German move.

Hyypiä was considered to be one of the best centre backs in the Premier League due to his tough tackling and aerial presence; due to his ability in the air he was a strong threat from corners. He formed a strong central defensive partnership with Jamie Carragher. He was at his peak in PES 4.
