Zenit St Petersburg will make their first appearance in the series in PES 2009 replacing Bayern Munich. Zenit have impressed most people by winning the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Super Cup defeating Rangers and Manchester United respectively but they are a much weaker side compared to Bayern and many believe they should have replaced a weaker team. It is well known that the club has never signed a black player which has caused controversy in the footballing world however in PES they will sign players regardless of skin colour.

Their star players are Danny Alves and Alessandro Rosina (whom does not appear in the default squad). Other notable players include defenders Radek Sirl, Aleksandr Anyukov, the midfielder Konstantin Zyryanov, strikers Fatih Tekke, Mateja Kezman (not in PES 2010 until after the update) and 2 players for the future Igor Denisov and Viktor Fayzulin.

After many departures from the squad such as Arshavin, Tymoshchuk, Pogrebnyak and Lee Ho the Zenit squad for PES 2010 is paper thin and only features 19 players, which make them less of a threat due to the inflexibility of the team.
